In the mid nineties, Azerbaijan initiated structuring of its national system for registration and protection of intellectual property (IP) rights
Today, this system deals with inventions, industrial designs, utility models, trademarks, geographic names, and copyright and related rights. The basic provisions regulating intellectual property in Azerbaijan are stated in the Copyright Law, the Trade Mark Law, the Patent Law, and the Integral Schemes Law. Provisions on the protection of intellectual property rights are also included in some other legislative acts regulating customs relations, administrative and criminal violations. Azerbaijan is a party to several international agreements concerning the protection of intellectual property.
