Michael Wilson

Michael Wilson is the founder of MWP, which has offices in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and Baku, Azerbaijan, with presences in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and is one of the largest and most successful firms in the Region.

Before founding MWP, Michael was the regional founding partner of Baker McKenzie from 1994 to 1998, one of the world’s leading international law firms and for whom he opened and established offices in Kazakhstan (Almaty and Astana), Uzbekistan (Tashkent), Azerbaijan (Baku) and Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek), which rose to become the most successful group of new offices in the history of that firm.

Michael has more than 14 years of experience practicing law in the UK, Australia and the USA (California), and more than 27 years in Central Asia, the Caucasus, Russia and Ukraine. Michael’s experience includes the provision of legal services at the highest level serving the largest oil & gas, mining, natural resources, banks, financiers, industrialists, transport and logistics companies, media and telecom companies in relation to all aspects of their projects, acquisitions, joint ventures and their investments.

He is a member of the the Law Society of New South Wales, the Law Society of England and Wales, and is admitted as a solicitor in the States of New South Wales and Victoria in Australia.  Michael is also admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, whilst also having rights of audience before the High Court of Australia, and the Astana International Financial Centre Court.
Michael obtained an LLB degree from the University of Manchester, and passed the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations after studying at the Chester College of Law.

He is a native English speaker, has British and Australian citizenships, and has three children: Alex, Sophie and Tom.
