Abay Zhangabylov

 Abay joined MWP in 2020. He is a Patent Attorney of Kazakhstan qualified to provide legal advice and assistance and deal with any legal issues howsoever arising in relation to the ownership of service marks, trademarks, patents, trade secrets, copyrights, design rights and other industrial or intellectual property rights of MWP and its clients. In addition, his main area of interest is corporate law (to serve tech international companies to deal with corporate governance issues, policy, management, and finance).

Abay started his professional career at Kazakhstan Patent & Trademark Office as a patent examiner, undertaking meticulous patent prosecution, and applications under International legal frameworks. He has over 14 years in IP/IT law, technology transfer and licensing practice fr om both government and private companies. Abay was a manager for IP & licensing at the Technology Commercialization Centre (TCC) funded by the World Bank in Kazakhstan wh ere he was deeply involved in technology transfer and licensing.

Abay obtained his LL.M degree in IP law at the University of Turin in Italy, where he took advanced courses on Patents, Trade Secrets, Trademarks, Copyright, Unfair Competition Law, IP and Economic Analysis Law, Jurisdiction and Applicable Law.
Abay is a native Kazakh and Russian speaker and is fluent in English.
